High Court asks medical college to grant admission as per new state policy
Uttarakhand high court (HC) on Thursday while hearing the matter related to MBBS admissions in Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (SGRRIMHS) in Dehradun directed the institute to grant admission to the students according to the renewed “state government guidelines.”
Jitendra Chaudhary, counsel for the institution said, “The honorable court has directed the college to admit the students according to the new state policy for now. The court also ruled that students taking admissions will have to submit the affidavit agreeing to pay the increased fee in case the petition is decided in favour of the institution in future.”
The institute had filed an appeal in the double bench of the high court against the order of the single bench, which had directed the institute on July 31 to provide immediate admission to a student who had cleared the NEET examination and was seeking admission to the college.
The institute had claimed that the state government, by increasing admission quota from 25% to 50%, had violated the terms of an agreement entered into by the government and medical institutes, and had put new admissions on hold. On July 13, this year, the state government increased the government quota in private medical colleges from 25% to 50% stating that half the seats of private medical colleges in the state will be filled by aspirants who have cleared NEET.
