Transporters call for strike in Dehradun on November 29

Protesting against the automated fitness station opened in Dehradun against the notification of the central government, private transporters have called for a blockade in the district and march to the assembly on Tuesday, 29 November.

Transporters said that to benefit a private company, the officials of the transport department have set up a fitness station and pressure is being exerted to take the vehicles there.

Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Service Federation has opposed sending all the vehicles of Garhwal for examination in the same fitness center. According to the federation, in protest against this, on November 29, the transport businessmen will march tp the Vidhansabha and stage protest.

He said that the Transport Commissioner’s office is showing inability to implement the notification of Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Whereas, it is clear in the guidelines of the Center that fitness centers should compulsorily start from April 1, 2023 for heavy vehicles and from June 1, 2024 for small vehicles.

At Laltappar in Doiwala, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had inaugurated an automated fitness station built on PPP mode for the fitness of vehicles. After the construction of this station, the fitness work being done in the RTO office was stopped.

Transporters have been opposing it since the beginning. They allege that the cost of diesel is increasing to reach Doiwala and each vehicle is costing an additional Rs 5,000 to 6,000. In protest against this, the transporters had gone to the Transport Headquarters and met the Transport Commissioner a day earlier on Friday, but the Commissioner refused to stop the decision.

The Center has ordered that all large vehicles, buses and trucks will have to go to the Automated Fitness Center for fitness from April 1, 2023. This rule will be applicable on the remaining small vehicles from June 1, 2024. It is alleged that even before this, the transport officials of Uttarakhand are doing arbitrariness to benefit the company.

In protest against this, the transporters have announced a strike and march to the Vidhansabha on Tuesday. In this, 20 unions of the district including City Bus, Private Bus Union,  Auto Union etc are said to be included.
