Earthquake tremors felt in Pithoragarh & Bageshwar

Panic scattered through earthquake shocks in Pithoragarh and Bageshwar district on Sunday night. As soon as the jolts were felt, people came out of the house. There is no news of damage.

Bageshwar district disaster management officer Shika Suyal said that light shocks of earthquake were felt at around 8:43 pm on Sunday night. The intensity of the earthquake is measured to 3.5 on Richter scale. The center of the earthquake was Pithoragarh. The depth of the earthquake is 10 km below the surface. Earthquake shocks were felt in Kapokot and Dug Nakuri tehsil. There is no notice of any damage at present. Right now, DM Ranjana Rajguru has alerted the disaster management teams after the earthquake.

22 days: Average duration of earthquakes in Uttarakhand

There is a startling report about earthquake shocks in Uttarakhand. According to the latest report of the Indian Earthquake Survey, 50 earthquakes have been recorded in Uttarakhand over the past three years. On an average every earthquake occurs every 22 days. According to the figures of the past three years, most earthquakes have hit Chamoli (14 times) and Pithoragarh (12 times).

Year-by-year earthquake figures are also increasing. In 2015, 13 earthquakes were recorded in 17 and 2017 in 2016.  In the last three years, the earthquake of the least capacity was 2.9 magnitude, which came in Chamoli district.
