Crops worth over Rs 10 crore damaged due to unseasonal rain, hail in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, farmers have incurred around Rs 11 crore loss for damage of crops due to unseasonal rain & hail. The Department of Agriculture and Horticulture has assessed the loss at the district level and submitted the report to the government. Crops have been damaged on 42530 hectares in agriculture and 9355 hectares in horticulture. Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar district of Uttarakhand were worst affected by hailstorm.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture, over 62530 hectares of land, wheat, lentils, legumes, pulses and oilseed crops have suffered more than six crore damage in eight districts of the state. Udham Singh Nagar has the maximum loss of 35460 hectares of agricultural land in excess of 30 million. While there was no loss reported in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar district.

At the same time, the Horticulture Department estimated loss of more than four and a half crores of horticultural crops on 9355 hectares of land across the state.

Cultivation of crops, vegetables and flowers has been damaged the most around 70 to 80 percent loss in Vikas Khand in Bahadarabad block of Haridwar district. Similarly, in the Bhaisianchina block of Almora district, fruit, vegetable, potato and spice crops were estimated to suffer about 50 percent loss. 50 to 60 percent damage has been done in Kot and Kaljikhal of Pauri district.

Reports of damage to crops have been received in the state due to hailstorm. According to the NDRF and SDRF standards, farmers will be compensated for loss of more than 33 percent.
