Citizens join hands to prevent felling of trees for Dehradun-Delhi highway expansion

Uttarakhand is both ecologically and geologically a very sensitive state. The state is very vulnerable to natural disasters. Despite facing many severe disasters, we have not been able to learn to maintain a balance between development and environment. Now look in Dehradun itself. It is proposed to construct an elevated road from Daatk Kali to Mohand. For this, 11 thousand trees have been marked for cutting.

Many organizations of the area have come together to save these trees. On Gandhi Jayanti, these organizations raised their voice vigorously by organizing ‘Chalo Mohand’ program. The organizations protested against the felling of trees in Daat Kali with placards in their hands and sticking them on the trees. The agitators said that 11 thousand trees are being cut in Dehradun to save just 11 minutes. This will not be allowed to happen at all.

This disastrous move of the government will be opposed at every level by the environmentalists. On one hand, the government is emphasizing on the protection of wildlife, while this proposal will destroy the wildlife habitat by cutting thousands of trees of Tiger Reserve. We are continuously destroying forests for development. Disasters like cloudburst, floods are the result of playing with nature. Now thousands of trees are being sacrificed in the name of development.

The agitators took an oath to save them by clinging to the trees on the lines of the Chipko movement. In the movement Khushi ki Udaan Charitable Trust, Titli Trust, Agas, Citizen for Doon, DNA, Do No Trash, Earth and Climate Initiative, The Eco Group Dehradun, The Friend of Doon Society, Friday for Future, Ideal Foundation, etc. members participated.
