Kedarnath Yatra resumes after weather clears

Bad weather in mountainous areas is increasing the difficulties of Chardham pilgrims. There was heavy rain and snowfall in Kedarnath Dham on Tuesday. The situation got so bad that the Chardham Yatra was halted. The operation of air services was also stopped temporarily.

Wednesday morning brought relief news for the pilgrims going to Kedarnath. Kedarnath Yatra has resumed as soon as the weather cleared. Helicopter service has also been restored. On Tuesday, due to snowfall in Kedarnath Dham, the temperature had reached minus four degrees. After the temporary halt on the yatra, 10 thousand to 12 thousand pilgrims were accommodated in Kedarnath. The movement of horse mules from Gaurikund also had to be stopped. From here only pedestrians were allowed to travel, stopping at safe places till 12 o’clock. The pilgrims sent to Kedarnath were advised to stay at safer places.

More than ten thousand pilgrims were staying at Gaurikund, Sonprayag and Phata due to continuous snowfall in the Dham. The police had also deployed NDRF and SDRF teams as a precautionary measure in view of the safety of the passengers. Kedarnath has received 5 inches of snowfall on the last day. Due to the rain, there was a rush of passengers at the yatra stop Jangalchatti, Bhimbali, Lincholi and Base Camp. As helicopter services were suspended due to bad weather, passengers had to face a lot of problems even at the helipad. However, there was some respite from the clearing of the weather on Wednesday. Helicopter service has resumed for Kedarnath Dham. Uttarakhand Police has appealed to the devotees coming to Kedarnath to register at http://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in before leaving for the Yatra. Also, keeping in mind the weather, carry warm clothes, raincoats and other essential items with you.
