Ganga Dussehra 2022: Large number of devotees reach Haridwar
On the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, there is a huge crowd of devotees taking a dip in the Ganges at Harki Pauri and other Ganga Ghats in Haridwar. After midnight, the crowd of devotees started gathering here to take a dip on the auspicious occassion.
Devotees started taking holy dip at Harki Pauri from the night itself. People are reaching Haridwar with the wish of salvation.
Significance of Ganga Dussehra
It is believed that for the salvation of the sons of King Sagar, his descendant King Bhagirath had brought Ganga from heaven to earth after doing penance for thousands of years. With the efforts of Bhagirath, when the Ganges came to earth through the matted locks of Shiva, she reached the Brahmakund on this day itself and saved the ancestors of Bhagirath. It is believed that 10 types of planetary alignments were present when Ganga descended on the earth.
So far four lakh devotees have taken a dip in Ganga
According to the police administration, since late night, four lakh devotees have returned to their homes after taking a holy dip in the Ganges and this will continue in this manner till the evening. The crowd of devotees is continuously increasing. The process of devotees taking bath in the Ganges will continue in this manner till late evening.
For the elaborate arrangements on the Ganga Dussehra festival, the police-administration has divided the entire fair area into four super zones, 16 zones and 37 sectors. Along with the deployment of police everywhere, the command of each sector has been entrusted to gazetted officers.
