Dehradun flower show 2023: Know the dates

Vasantotsav 2023- the Spring festival of Dehradun sees a huge footfall every year at Raj Bhavan for the numerous flowers on display in the event. This year the flower show will be held from 03rd to 05th March at Governor House, Dehradun.

Addressing the media ahead of the occasion, the Governor gave important information related to horticulture to the farmers. The Governor said that the Vasantotsav, started in Raj Bhavan since 2003, has become the identity of Dehradun. This event which started as an exhibition has become popular day by day and has now turned into a big cultural and economic festival. He said that prosperity can be brought in the state through flower production. Here in the field of agriculture and flower production there are many possibilities which can prove to be a boon for Uttarakhand. Raj Bhavan every year by organizing Vasantotsav in the courtyard, raises awareness and interest in the field of flower production among general public and farmers.

Before the formation of the state of Uttarakhand, there was only 150 hectares of flower production in the state, which has increased at present 1609.93 ha, in which, apart from rose, marigold, tuberose, gerbera, carnation, gladiolus, Lilium, chrysanthemum, orchid etc. are being mainly commercially produced. Currently in the state around 3022.90 Million tonnes of loose flowers (rose, marigold, tuberose and others) and 14.43 crore cut flowers are being produced. Currently in the state flowers worth about Rs 250.00 crores are being traded.

Vasantotsav 2023 main attractions

Various competitions are being organized on this occasion:
1. Cut flowers 2. Potted plants management 3. Loose flower management, 4. Potted plants other than flowers
5.Rooftop Gardening(Vegetables), 6.Cactus & Succulents, 7. Bonsai, 8.Terrarium, 9. hanging pots
10. Different types of pots, 11. On the spot photography, 12. Rangoli of fresh flower parties, 13. Edible flowers competition, 14. Lawn, 15. Honey, 16. Painting competition for school and other children (05 to 18 years age group). There are a total of 62 sub-categories in the category of the above 16 main competitions, in which first, second and third prizes will be given.

Thus a total of 186 prizes will be awarded to the winners on March 05, 2023 after the decision of the jury. For the first time in this year 04 new categories namely- Rooftop Gardening, Bonsai, Terrarium and Honey are included in the competition.
