Foreign trekker goes missing in Chamoli

A member of the six-member trek to trek up Trishul peak in the border district Chamoli went missing. It is being told that he has been missing since the arrival of Avalanche on the tracking route. The remaining five members of the team are said to be safe. The district administration has sent a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to reach them.

Another team has left from Dehradun for Chamoli, which will arrive by morning. The climber was reported missing to India via a woman from the US. The month-long tour is being run by the Delhi-based organization Indian Mountaineering Foundation. However, according to Chamoli Police Captain YS Chauhan, the administration has no information of any such party being allowed to go for trekking to Trishul Parvat.

According to District Disaster Manager Officer NK Joshi, the Hungarian climber was reported missing on the Trishul peak through officials of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Sunday evening. It is told that Nicolhus, the American partner of the missing mountaineer, had informed a woman of his country in this regard through an emergency SMS. The woman sent this message to the officials of Delhi Airport.

This six-member team had come last month i.e. 13 September for the ascent of seven thousand one hundred and twenty meters high Trishul peak, whose expedition was to be completed on the 8th of this month. Where the team started tracking, nothing has been known yet. There are three routes to reach this peak in Chamoli district, but according to the forest department officials, it does not have information of giving permission to allow the trekking team from any of the three.

According to the disaster management officer, the name of the missing climber is Peter Vitek and the age is about 37 years. He is said to be a native of Hungary. His companion, who reported his disappearance after avalanche via SMS, has come to know the location Mount Trishul-Two Camp, which is at an altitude of about five thousand meters. From this it is estimated that the party has climbed Trishul peak to this height. The rest of the members are estimated to be around this site.

Chamoli Superintendent of Police Yashwant Singh Chauhan said that the SDRF team has been dispatched for search and rescue. On Tuesday, another team of SDRF will be sent from ITBP team Dehradun. Information is being gathered about the rest of the team members.

Ranger Trilok Singh Bisht of Dewal region of Chamoli district said that three people from Germany were allowed to trek from Lojjung to Trishul on 25 September from the forest department. The talk of this team reaching Sutol has been revealed. Apart from this, the forest department has not allowed any other party.
