Uttarakhand vs Bengal Ranji Trophy: Abhimanyu Easwaran scores century in stadium named after him

Young batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran on Tuesday (January 3) came out to play for Bengal against Uttarakhand in Dehradun in the Ranji Trophy match. The special thing is that the stadium in which Abhimanyu is playing the first-class match, is named after him. Born on 6 December 1995 in Dehradun, Abhimanyu’s father Ranganathan Parameswaran Easwaran bought a place in Dehradun in 2005. At this place, he setup the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy Stadium.

27-year-old Abhimanyu has also received cricket training from this academy. Abhimanyu has scored 19 centuries and 23 half-centuries in 79 first-class matches. He has also scored 5746 runs at an average of 46.33. Abhimanyu was recently included in the squad for the Test series against Bangladesh, but did not get a chance to make his debut.

It is common for legendary players to have stadiums named after them after their retirement, but this is a unique case of having a stadium named after a player from the earliest days of the game. Women’s and men’s matches have been organized by the BCCI on this ground, but Abhimanyu, will play a first-class match for the first time here. Ranganathan, a chartered accountant by profession, started the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in 1988, even before the birth of his son.

Continues good run with the bat

Playing the first match of the Ranji season, Easwaran had scored an innings of 170 against Nagaland a few days back. Earlier, innings of 141 and 157 against Bangladesh A for India A came out from his bat.

Till the time of writing the news, Bengal has made a score of 181/1 in the first innings. Easwaran shared an 84-run opening partnership with Sayan Shekhar Mandal (18).
