NGT issues notice to Dehradun admin, Nagar Nigam

NGT has issued a notice to Nagar Nigam and city administration about shifting of the trenching ground from Sahastradhara Road for which the concerned parties have to reply by October 15, 2016. For the same issue, Supreme Court has also issued a notice to Municipal Corporation for which the next date is on September 19, 2016. However the trenching ground shifting depends on the development of waste plant at Shishambara, the work for which has been halted. After receiving clearances in 2014, the plan was supposed to be completed by Dec 2016.

The development of JNNURM that will include composting, recycling, Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) as well as sanitary land fill (SLF) and the deadline for completion of the project is within 2 years of getting approval from MoEF which was granted in 2014 but with CM Harish Rawat’s recent order to halt the work at the plant, it is possible that the deadline will not be met. Nitin Bhaduria, Commissioner, Dehradun Nagar Nigam said,”The notice by NGT has been issued to MDDA, Pollution control board (PCB), city administration and Nagar Nigam. We have sent a reply from our side while MDDA and PCB will be sending their replies to the notice.”
