Valley of flowers opened for tourists

On the heights of the Himalayas, the wonderful creation of nature, the Valley of Flowers, has again been opened for tourists from June 1. Pushpavati river flows through the middle of this valley of flowers. From now on Saturday, the nature lovers can come here. If you love colorful and attractive flowers then you must definitely see it in the valley of flowers. Especially in the months of August and September when the beauty of the valley of flowers is on its full display. Located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, the valley of  flowers is a World Heritage site under Nanda Devi National Park. It has been opened for tourists since June 1 for the current season. For the tourists, the forest department has made complete preparations.

Only a short distance from Hemkund

The holy shrine of Sikhs- Hemkund Sahab is a short trek from the valley of flowers. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site in 2005 due to its natural beauty and biological diversity. The Valley of flowers spread over 87.5 sq km is attracting not only Indian but also the tourists from around the world. It has also been mentioned in the Mahabharata era. This valley is said to be the Nand Kanan or the garden of Indra in heaven at the time of the Mahabharata period.

Atkinson, who was the Commissioner of Garhwal in British India, in his book Himalayan Gazetteer in 1931 called it a valley of natural flowers. When the botanist Frank was returning to from Smith Kamet mountain, he was fascinated to see the picturesque valley of flowers. In 1937, Frank moved to the valley from Edinburgh’s Botanical Garden and stayed here for three months.

Flowers hundreds of species

Around three hundred species of flowers blossom at different times in the flowering valley. The valley is a treasure trove of biodiversity. Flowers growing here are many flowers like Potentilla, primula, anemone, arisima, aconitum, blue poppy, Mary gold, Brahma kamal, lotus and many more bloom here. In the valley, rare species of living organisms, vegetation, and herbs, also dwell.

How to reach the valley of flowers

Govindghat, the nearest motorable hamlet is 17 km from the valley. There is a resting village Ghagharia- 14 km from Govindghat at a height of 3050 meters. From here the valley of flowers at a distance of 3 km from Laxman Ganga pull on the left side. The flowering valley remains open from June 1 to October 31. But there are many flowers from the first week of July to the third week of October. There are also worlds of butterflies. In this valley there are musk deer, monal, black bear of the Himalayas among other wildllife. In the valley of flowers, snow is still there in some places. Ice is broken by the machines to repair broken roads.
