Dehradun RTO set to go Hi-Tech with online registration

From the first week of December, Doonites will no longer have to stand in long queues at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) as applicants in the city would be able to fill an online application form to obtain a driving licence and make payment online.

The applicants will have to visit the transport office on a system generated date for biometric identification and a driving test to obtain the licence.

CS Napchiyal, Uttarakhand Transport Commissioner, told reporters, “We have completed all the necessary preparations for introducing the online driving licence application system in Dehradun RTO. Our plan is to get it inaugurated by the chief minister anywhere in the first week of December.”

He further added that the new online facility will not only simplify the procedure and make it more convenient to people, but also reduce the role of middlemen.

Currently, an applicant has to fill an application which is checked by the RTO authorities prior to submission of fee. The applicant then undergoes a written and oral test before the licence is issued.

The online driving licence application system is a part of SARATHI application software, designed by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
