Rains, wind gusts bring down temperature in Doon

Due to the change in weather conditions in Uttarakhand, the mercury has dropped from plains to mountain. There was fresh snowfall on Chardham peaks and rain in the lower areas gave people some relief from the heat. Within the last 24 hours, mercury in Mussoorie dropped by 6.2 degrees while in Dehradun it dropped by 2.6 degrees Celsius. Due to strong winds and showers, heat was felt less than in the morning in Doon. On the other hand, Roorkee was the hottest city of the state, mercury was recorded at 42 degree Celsius.

Yesterday, there was rain and snowfall in Badrinath, Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib. In Pauri there was relief from the heat after the rain. In the plains, there was a slight decrease in temperature by one to two degrees Celsius due to light cloud cover.

The Meteorological Center predicts that in the coming 24 hours, there will be severe storms in the plains with wind speeds upto 60 km per hour. There is a possibility of hailstorm somewhere during this period. Moderate rainfall may occur in the hills of the state.

On Wednesday, the people in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udhamsingh Nagar got respite from the heat due to rains. The maximum and minimum temperature of Doon was recorded at 37.8 and 23.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. While the maximum temperature of Haridwar was 38.2 degrees Celsius. The heat wave is that mercury touched 30 degrees in hill towns like Uttarkashi, Nainital and Almora. Jaspur was the warmest in the state. The maximum temperature was recorded at 40.6 degree Celsius here. Due to the heat, people’s movement on the streets of Dehradun was low.

At the same time, the storm continued overnight in most parts of Uttarakhand including capital Dehradun. The night temperature was cooler in entire Uttarakhand due to rain. In the mountains of Garhwal and Kumaon, cloud cover remained since Thursday morning. At the same time, there have been intermittent light rains in many places. According to Bikram Singh, Director of State Meteorological Center, there is possibility of rain and hailstorms anywhere in the state till Saturday. While high mountains can have snowfall.

Blackout in many parts of Dehradun

Like Tuesday, Wednesday night also people had to face power cuts due to the high speed winds. The power lines lines of Old Mussoorie Road, Dhakpatti, Ganeshpur, where damaged from falling trees, a large tin shade near ISBT fell on top of the power line. Employees of the Electricity Department were trying to remove trees from the lines. Power supply stalled due to falling trees in the trees in the area.
